Fitness. Part 1.
Hey There World,
lets talk about one of my favorite things; Exercise and fitness.
When I was a child I had adhd and behavioral issues and my family was hard pressed to try and keep me under control.
My father was a gifted runner; Part of wisconsin's premiere running club- Badgerland Striders, So of course it was a natural solution for him to take me running at a young age.
I had a natural talent, augmented by my indefatigable mental energy.
First i would ride my bike as he ran, then as i got stronger, i would roller skate.
then, I was actually able to keep up as he ran and I ran along with him, although he slowed down for me.
Soon after, I was able to match him stride for stride, eventually surpassing him.
When we would run together my father would teach me things. how to step lightly, which cadence of breath is best for which pace and stride. How to lean into a hill, and at what grade. How to match stride to speed, the myriad ways of conserving energy. The way to meditate and focus to regain energy reserves.
EVERYTHING.
I absorbed it all, and found meaning in it.
We lived a block away from whitnall park and so when i wasn't running, i would explore the woods, and enjoy nature.
I still meditate and find my focus as i exercise. I am never more mentally at peace than when i am running or exercising.
it wasn't simply exercise though, with my father. He impressed upon me at a very young age that diet is important. and so as a child i never ate sweets or junk food because i wanted to be the very best runner i could be.
And throughout my life i still have never eaten sweets or junk food or processed foods- To which i largely attribute my excellent constitution.
i went to state all 4 years of high school. and ran competitively afterwards. running 4 marathons and one ultra marathon- which i ran in exactly 8 hours and 12 seconds.
After awhile however, i began to gravitate more towards weightlifting; mostly for reasons of vanity.
After a serious knee surgery last year i focused my energy solely on weightlifting; but that will be expounded upon in the next blog entry...
